DOREE
« La Légende Dorée »
is the eighth album by the French band OPERA MULTI
STEEL.
This is also the first one since 2002 when the band
stopped recording after the release of “Une
Idylle en Péril” issued by the now
extinct German label Triton.
This new album is a kind of return to the very
first years of the band. The musicians attempted
to recreate the minimalist
atmosphere from the time of their first cult album
“Cathedrale” reusing and
exhuming all the instruments they were playing by
that time such as the vintage Elex or Casio VL Tone
keyboards…
The rhythm patterns were elaborated with samples
from the rhythm boxes which they loved so much on
their beginnings, mainly Roland TR 606, TR 808 models…
The minimal "hand made"electronic wave
sound of the band is completed by the adjunction
of flutes, melodica and bass guitar.
Some atmospherical sound effects, one of the band's
characteristic recordings, are still scattering
over the songs of the album.
This new album presents twelve brand new songs
composed, written and arranged by Patrick L . Robin,
Catherine Marie, Franck Lopez and Eric Milhiet
who are playing together as OMS musicians since
the album “A Contresens”.
The digipack artwork was conceived as a small triptych
using anonymous sulpician distorted pictures from
the late XIXth
and beginning of the XXth centuries selected among
the wide personal old pictures collection of the
band’s members.
The album’s title is a reference to a famous
book written by Jacques de Voragine between 1261
and 1266 relating the life and the tragical destiny
of saints and martyrs.
Several lyrics of this new OMS album are in relation
with saints and distant mysticism in general (Sainte
So. NS-ND, Rite Sacré…) the idea of
using it came naturally ,
for subject itself and for its poetical sounding
as well. Anyway, the lyrics written by Patrick L.
Robin also keep on exploring outside the strict
limits of supposed beliefs.
All the human vanities and torments are merged in
those texts within an apparent hermetic literary
form that allows every personal interpretation.
The band released in 2008 a Best of Collection
double cd by
Wave Records (Brazil) and now the Brazilian label
release the new album in 3 different versions (Cd,
Limited double cd and Box Limited Edition).
